The 2017 date for Red Bull Straight Rhythm has been revealed in a trailer for the event.

Circle October 21 on your calendar as the half-mile, straight supercross track returns once again to Fairplex in Pomona, California for the 2017 edition of Red Bull Straight Rhythm.

The unique head-to-head event marks its fourth year of running and will continue the new format started in 2016 where practice, qualifying and racing all goes down on the same day, with the finals taking place in the evening under the lights.

A sweet selection of top supercross and motocross riders will compete in this Red Bull Signature Series but there will be one notable absentee with Red Bull’s most successful moto athlete, Ryan Dungey, highly unlikely to race following his retirement from professional racing earlier this year.

Despite missing last year’s event, James Stewart still has the most Red Bull Straight Rhythm Open Class wins with one in the inaugural year of the event in 2014, followed by another victory a year later – the same year his brother Malcolm won the 250 Class. But don’t expect to see Bubba at the gate this year either.

Red Bull’s Marvin Musquin could go into the night event as the hot favourite with two wins to his name after taking victory in the 250 class in 2014 and then triumphing over his team-mate, Ryan Dungey, last year to take the 2016 Open Class crown.

2014 Red Bull Straight Rhythm Winners

  • Marvin Musquin 2014 250 Class winner (Justin Hill runner-up)
  • James Stewart 2014 Open Class winner(Justin Brayton runner-up)

2015 Red Bull Straight Rhythm Winners

  • James Stewart 2015 Open Class winner (Ken Roczen runner-up)

2016 Red Bull Straight Rhythm Winners

Ronnie Mac was the smash hit of last year’s event with fans at the event and online enjoying his, erm, unique riding style – let’s hope he makes a return for 2017. Another star, of a very different kind, made its debut last year with the electric Alta Motors RedShift, mounted by Josh Hill, holding its own in the 250 Class. It will be interesting to see if the company are up for a re-match come October 21.
