Introduced last season, the Triple Crown format is back again with three U.S. cities: Anaheim, Detroit and Houston getting the honour. Additionally, the East/West Showdowns will take place in Atlanta and Las Vegas.

“We’re really looking forward to defending the Triple Crown Championship in 2019,” said last year’s Triple Crown Champion, Eli Tomac.

“The team was excited to take home the inaugural championship last year, and the three Main Event format is the same as the Monster Energy Cup, which we just recently won. Of course, the goal is always to win the overall Supercross Championship, but these races should be fun for the fans because they are short, fast and intense,” Tomac added in a press release.

Instead of just one Supercross Main Event, the Triple Crown puts the top 250SX and 450SX riders in front of their adoring fans in three quick-fire Main Events.

Qualifying reduces the pack to the top 22 riders for each class. The 250 riders will then race a six-minute Main, a 10-minute Main and finally a 12-minute Main. The 450SX three Mains are slightly longer at eight, 12 and then 15-minutes.

The position the rider finishes is mirrored in points awarded. If you finish first you get one point and so on. The combined score determines the finishing order for the overall points with the lowest points score getting the overall win.

250SX Class East/West Showdowns

At the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on March 2 and Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas on May 4 fans will get the chance to watch the fastest 22 riders of both 250SX divisions go bar-to-bar in a 15-minute plus 1 lap Main Event where the winner takes all.

“I think the East/West Showdowns are really cool and a fun change in the schedule, especially for the fans,” said GEICO Honda’s Christian Craig. “The best part is probably finding out which coast is more dominant or if they are pretty even.”

Supercross hype is building

With Ken Roczen looking to be fit and back to his very best, Eli Tomac fresh from his Million win at the Monster Energy Cup, defending champion Jason Anderson returning to action and four rookies jumping up to the premier class, the 2019 season has become one of the most eagerly awaited Supercross championships in years.

Joey Savatgy has stepped up to 450SX with Monster Energy Kawasaki and he looked good on his debut at the Monster Cup. Both defending regional 250SX class champions, that’s Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Zach Osborne and Monster Energy/Yamaha Factory Racing’s Aaron Plessinger, make their 450SX class debuts at Anaheim 1 on January 5.

And don’t forget Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin and new team-mate Cooper Webb, plus a packed field of talented riders including Factory Yamaha’s Justin Barcia and Malcolm Stewart and veteran Justin Brayton on the Smartop Bullfrog Spas Hondas.

Feld has promised to showcase “expanded features” and unique city-centric obstacles including a large “speedway style” flat turn, split lanes, elevated turns and back-to-back whoop sections in select markets.
