Is anyone going to catch Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) in the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series?
After defending champion Cooper Webb (Red Bull KTM) and Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy Kawasaki) both crashed out in Texas it’s shaping up to be a two-horse race with Ken Roczen (Team Honda HRC) emerging as the only likely challenger to Tomac.
Roczen won the first of the triple crown Main Events before slipping to 7-2 finishes that put him second overall. With 10 rounds to go he currently sits second in the 450 points, seven behind Tomac.
“I had my struggles in general all day,” he said. “It wasn’t my favourite type of track – it took me a little bit to get used to it. It looked super-tacky but it was actually very slippery. The first Main was really good. I made a move early and I wouldn’t say I checked out but it was good to get the first one.
“I think the second one was the most important one. We wanted to go out there and get that one good and that was really not our Main Event but all-in-all – considering how many crashes there were today – I’m really happy. We salvaged a second place overall which I’m really satisfied with this weekend.
“You could see the whoops breaking down and the dragon back as well. It ate up Adam and I didn’t see Cooper’s crash but it ate him up too.
“The fight continues and it’s a great spot for me to be in because I haven’t been in this position for a long time in the last few years so we’ll just keep it rolling from here.”
