Just in case you’ve been hiding under a rock – or have been suspended from social media – for the last couple of months, the VMXdN takes place this weekend at Farleigh Castle.

The world’s biggest retro-racing festival, the event continues to grow in popularity and for the first time in its 11-year history will boast a full line-up of 30 teams.

Split into Evo and Twin-shock categories, a first for 2019 is a five-lap qualifying race for each class to decide team start positions which will take place shortly after lunch on Saturday.

Once again, the USA has sent a very strong team comprising John Dowd, Ivan Tedesco, Doug Dubach and Mike Brown but they will face a stiff challenge from Belgium which is fielding two-time world champ Steve Ramon along with Ken de Dycker, Sven Breugelmans and Filip van Dijck.

Kurt Nicoll will lead the British challenge in the Evo class – backed up by Stephen Sword, Phil Mercer and Mark Eastwood – and in the Twin-shock category home fans will have the strong team of Wayne Butt, Terry House, Alex Rach and Rick Du Feu to cheer on.

Teams from Denmark, Germany, Luxembourg, Finland, Holland, Australia, Ireland, Scotland and Wales could be the ones to upset the favourites with three out of the four riders needing to score points in every race.

The team events will be backed up by supporting races with around 100 foreign entries challenging for individual honours against Britain’s best from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s with big names including Graham Noyce, Mervyn Anstie, Pete Mathia, Tom Church, Neil Prince, Michele Fanton and Christian Burnham.

The action starts at 9am on both days with gates opening at 7.30am on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Postcode is BA2 7RR.
