If you were at the Milton round of the Maxxis British Championship recently you will be the last to see Steve Ramon on a Buildbase Honda.

The Buildbase Honda team and particularly Steve’s mechanic, Will Irvine have worked hard with Ramon since last winter but the two-time Belgian World Champion has not managed to get to grips with our domestic motocross championships, a situation reflected in his results.

Ramon is currently sitting in eighth in the Maxxis ACU Championship standings but some 92 points from Championship leader Tanel Leok. Ramon’s best result came in the opening moto of the season at Fat Cats in Doncaster, grabbing fourth behind Whatley, Barragan and moto/overall winner, Tommy Searle.

Although the Belgian pilot finished a creditable fifth place at the opening race at Milton, both Ramon and Buildbase team boss Dave Thorpe were hoping the two-man MX1 team of Ramon and Aubin would be battling for top honours here in the UK, but sadly, these results did not materialise.

In the past few days – by mutual agreement – an amicable separation has been agreed and Buildbase Honda wishes Steve every success in the future.

Dave Thorpe explains: “I have the greatest respect for Steve Ramon as a rider and racer. His professionalism is, as one would expect from a rider who has achieved the very highest accolade in motocross.

“Asking Steve to compete on a new bike, in a new team, in a new country after a lengthy break from competition was always going to be tough. We all tried and all gave 100% but, now at the halfway stage of the season, we must jointly make this disappointing decision. I wish Steve the very best for the future.”

Buildbase Honda will continue with a one-rider team, fielding Nico Aubin, until a suitable replacement can be found.
