Stefan Everts is being treated in an Intensive Care Unit at a Belgian hospital it has been reported.

The reports say Everts contracted Malaria while visiting the Democratic Republic of the Congo three weeks ago – he is said to have been attending a charity event.

Everts’ family confirmed the news to Belgian media on Friday but have not revealed the seriousness of his condition.

The NHS describes Malaria as a serious tropical disease that is spread by mosquitoes and if it is not diagnosed and treated quickly it can be fatal.

It is worth repeating that at this time we do not know the condition of the motocross legend. When we know more about the 10-time world champion’s condition we will update here.

It goes without saying that all at Dirt Bike Rider send our best wishes to Stefan and his family at what will be a very difficult time.
