Rhenen is where Jeffrey Herlings has chosen to make his long-awaited return to motocross competition on May 30, 2019 at the Dutch Masters of Motocross.

Yes! What just about every motocross fan has been waiting for in 2019 has finally arrived…

Officially confirmed by the event organisers, Herlings will line up against a quality field in Rhenen for the penultimate round of the Dutch motocross championship.

For Herlings, this is his first race event of the season after seriously injuring his right foot during training in Spain back in January.

World-class line-up in Rhenen

With more than 25 GP riders on the gate in 250cc and 500cc, the Masters in Rhenen will offer plenty of fireworks and stiff competition for the return of the Dutch hero.

In addition to Herlings, a host of world-class motocross stars come to the beautiful circuit Kwintelooijen including former world champion Romain Febvre, fresh from an impressive podium at the MXGP of France last weekend with a 5-2 scorecard, Glenn Coldenhoff – who took the last moto win at Round 2 in Axel – and former MX2 world champion Pauls Jonass are also competing in Rhenen.

Who to watch in Rhenen

With an 18 point gap ahead of Coldenhoff in the 500cc championship, the giant of MX, Arminas Jasikonis, has excelled in the absence of Herlings and the Lithuanian will be determined to add to his total of three moto wins from four in the 2019 Dutch championship.

Two third-place finishes in France last Sunday for Arnaud Tonus could mean the Swiss talent is starting to show his true potential and he will be hopeful of continuing the good form. Also on the entry list is Max Anstie but after sitting out the GP at Saint Jean d’Angely he may not be fit for Round 3 of the Dutch series.

There’s no shortage of rippers in the 250cc class. Jago Geerts was definitely the fastest last time out and will be full of confidence after straight up beating Jorge Prado in the opening moto in France last weekend. Unfortunately for Geerts, engine trouble threw a spanner in the works in Axel which left the door open for the equally quick Henry Jacobi who now leads the Dutch Masters 250cc championship by 29 points from Geerts.

Just a few more points back, Britain’s Ben Watson is still in the championship fight. Speaking of British riders…

Adam Sterry has been reborn in 2019 and is starting to put in consistent rides in the Motocross World Championship and has to be capable of a podium in Rhenen.

Young Guns

In the 125cc class, Kay de Wolf of Jacky Martens’ Factory Husqvarna team has the series lead but only by six points. And after getting on the podium in Axel, high profile pilot Liam Everts will be aiming to continue his improvement.

The points gap in the 85cc is even smaller. That should be point gap with leader Karlis Alberts Reisulis a solitary point ahead of Cas Valk. With the pair taking all the moto wins between them so far, it’s a solid bet these two will be at the sharp end of the action in Rhenen.

Most beautiful motocross circuit in the Netherlands?

The Kwintelooijen circuit is characterised by its enormous height differences (sixty meters). Only once a year does the track open for motorcycles, this year during the Dutch Masters. Many motocross enthusiasts consider this the most beautiful circuit in the Netherlands – located in a beautiful nature reserve near Rhenen.

It provides a unique experience for riders and spectators. Due to the weather and the good preparation by the MACRO team, the course is expected to carry high speed.

The day program starts on Thursday 30 May at 8.30am (local time) with the training sessions of the 85cc, followed by 125cc, 250cc and 500cc. In the afternoon all classes ride two motos.
