The Red Bull Pro Nationals are off and running with two rounds complete of their seven-round championship and as it stands it’s PAR Honda’s Brad Anderson and DB Racing Pulse Honda’s Elliott Banks-Browne who are leading the rest of the field with maximum points apiece in both the MX1 and MX2 classes.

So who will take on the challenge at round three at Skelder Bank, Whitby, this weekend?

Speaking with Martin Barr he is confident that he can stop Ando’s winning streak and get his Proppa.com KTM up on the top step. “The next track we have coming up is Whitby which is one of my favourites so I’m really looking forward to it.I can feel a win coming on at the moment and hopefully it’ll be at the next round.”

Andersonhas admitted that Whitby may not be his strongest circuit so this could open the door for either Barr or Stephen Sword. Swordy sits third in points and really stepped up his game at round two and took the fight to Anderson but a few unforced errors cost him dearly and he was bitterly disappointed with third overall on the day. Sword is a strong contender to the title and although by his own admission he hasn’t had the best of starts to his campaign it is a long championship and he definitely has the speed and ability to take the win.

Then there’s the wildcard in the form of James Noble! That’s right, Noble – the Red Bull Pro Nationals MX1 vice champion of 2010 – makes a welcome return to the series. James has been busy working for a living since hanging up his boots but couldn’t resist racing again at his home track.

“I just thought that I’ve got such a good track right on my doorstep, one of the best tracks in the country. I thought that I wanted to have a go at the Red Bull Pro Nationals there – I know that I’m not going to be competitive but I just want to go riding basically!”

In the MX2 class it’s all been about Pulse Racing DB Honda’s Elliott Banks-Browne with four from four race wins. Elliott has been in top form despite having picked up an injury at round one. Speaking with EBB ahead of Whitby we asked what he thinks to the track.

“Yeah I like Whitby, I’ve always liked Whitby. I like the jumpy tracks and it’s quite fast there as well. MX1 haven’t got a huge advantage there either, which is cool.” This just shows EBB’s confidence as he is only thinking about beating the MX1 boys.

His nearest rival has been TAS Suzuki’s Mel Pocock who is not far behind and also looking to get back to full fitness. Mel had another strong outing despite injury and trackside distractions but looks determined and focussed on taking the challenge to EBB.

In the Fuchs Silkolene 2 Stroke British Championship it is Luke Remmer and John Pettitt who are the ones to watch in the 125cc class and have provided some truly epic battles at the opening two rounds of the championship. In the Open class it is Matt Moffatt who has been the most consistent but the hard-charging Stuart Edmonds is definitely out to make amends for his uncharacteristic mistakes at round two.

The Red Bull Elite Youth Cup certainly suggests that the future is bright for the sport with some dazzling displays of talent on show across all the classes. The Small Wheel class has seen some amazing battles at each round and with local boy Jay Hague on form he stands in good shape for getting his first overall victory. The Big Wheel class brought a new winner in Fraser Viner who really took the challenge to young Ben Watson but put too much pressure on himself on the Sunday which cost him the overall. This young man will have learnt from his mistakes and there could be some really exciting racing among these two.

There is so much going on over a Red Bull Pro Nationals race weekend it’s difficult to put it all down on paper. There is the regular FMX tour that travels around with the series performing on the Saturday and Sunday, the Suzuki motocross try out area for those who want to take their first steps in becoming a motocross legend, they’ll be music from the Red Bull DJ truck over the weekend, a Trade Village, Kids zones including Zorb balls and Bunjee Bouncers, a Red Bull Bar, a Big Screen featuring trackside interviews and live timing and of course the race action itself being centre stage!
