Team Italy for MXoN 2019 has been announced, with two familiar names on the squad and one that has certainly caught the eye if you’ve been following the EMX series.

IMF Technical Commissioner Thomas Traversini has selected for the Motocross of Nations in Assen, 25-year-old Ivo Monticelli (MXGP), EMX250 hotshot Alberto Forato is in for MX2 and 28-year-old Alessandro Lupino is again picked for the Open class.

Alessandro Lupino is the MXdN veteran of the 2019 Team Italy squad, having taken part in six editions, while Ivo Monticelli last appeared at the ‘Nations in 2015 at Ernee, France.

EMX250 star, Alberto Forato will make his debut in the competition at 19 years of age.

Thomas Traversini, FMI Technical Commissioner: “In Holland we will do our best on a technical track with a sandy bottom. The boys have shown great enthusiasm and I am sure that both in qualifying and in the race they will race with determination. I consider the Netherlands and France the favourite teams, and our goal will be to fight with the best teams. Lupino and Monticelli this year showed they can enter the top 10 of the MXGP while Forato has been in the running for the European Championship 250, a high-level championship.”

Team Italy finished in third place at last year’s MXoN before their hard work was undone after falling foul of a fuel test and were subsequently disqualified, moving the British team up into third spot.
