MX2 will count on more American presence at the Matterley Basin for the British Grand Prix in three weeks with another youngster from the Pro Circuit Kawasaki ranks filling the vacant KX250F in Steve Dixon’s Monster Energy Dixon Racing Team Kawasaki squad.
Darian Sanayei, who finished second in the Monster Energy Cup Amateur All-Stars last October and also has two East Lites Main Event wins in the 2015 Amsoil Arenacross series, will occupy Mel Pocock’s race bike to make his Grand Prix debut for what will be round seven of 18 in the 2015 competition.
Sanayei, 18 years old, is due to fly to Europe and the UK next week for at least eight days of riding and acclimatisation before his MX2 bow.
Dixon admits that if #457 can make a positive impact and is happy with his speed around one of the most popular tracks on the schedule then he could remain in the team for the rest of the 2015 campaign.
“At the request of Monster with their athlete programme in the U.S. with Kawasaki and Pro Circuit Darian was going to come over and originally do the EMX race at Matterley but we’ll upgrade him to MX2 and see how he does,” Dixon commented. “If things go well at Matterley then we’ll have a look towards the rest of the championship.”
“Obviously he is already riding a Kawasaki and Pro Circuit but we’ll test and do what we can to make him happy on the bike,” he added.
Sanayei is following in the footsteps of Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Thomas Covington who made his first European appearance in EMX250 at Matterley in 2013 and then signed to stay for the entire GP season last year after wild-card outings in Qatar, Thailand and Brazil.
Pocock meanwhile has been making a good rate of recovery after multiple operations on a gruesome right hand injury sustained at the British Championship opener in March. “With Mel we need to leave it a few more weeks to see his progress,” Dixon said. “He is doing really well and keeping positive.”
