Adam Sterry says he’s ready to step up to a 450 machine if his country comes calling for the 2019 MXoN.

The 22-year-old ages out of the MX2 class at the conclusion of the 2019 FIM Motocross World Championship. And with the expectation that F&H Kawaski will continue to focus in MX2, Sterry will be looking for an MXGP ride for coming season.

The former British MX2 champion has shown impressive flashes of speed on a 250 but has been hampered by a string of unlucky injuries in recent seasons.

But now injury free he has started to make his mark.

Two weeks ago he just missed the podium at Loket with a sixth and second place. And then the Welshman followed that with another stellar ride, this time at the notorious Lommel circuit with a third place in the opening moto.

Sterry looked all set to celebrate a podium in Belgium after another strong start in the second moto only for bad luck to steal it away after getting tangled with team-mate Henry Jacobi who had crashed in front of Sterry, leaving him with nowhere to go.

But despite this disappointment, he finished the weekend with another 37 championship points banked, moving him up to sixth the standings.

While many think it comes down to either Sterry or Ben Watson in the MX2 class for Team GB at the Motocross of Nations, Sterry told Dirt Bike Rider exclusively that he is open to racing on the 450 in Assen.

Although he hasn’t yet had any time on a 450cc bike he does not see that as an obstacle. “It’s been a dream of mine [to race at the ‘Nations] so of course I’d ride it on a 450 ā€“ I need to ride one next year and my weight and style suits one better,” said Sterry.

“I know I can get a good start and with the couple of weeks after the last GP before ‘Nations I can do testing and really get used to a 450.

“Of course I’d ride it on a 450 or 250 if that was helpful for the team.”
