An explosive report out today says that the mood inside Team France is at a low point following the withdrawal of Romain Febvre and to make matters worse for the FFM, the LebigUSA website says that Marvin Musquin was asked and then turned down the offer of replacing Febvre.

Since Romain Febvre’s big crash in Turkey, the French federation have been anxiously waiting for an injury update on the former world champion. Then the bad news came, Febvre would not be fit for RedBud, leaving Team France with the prospect of going cap in hand to Marvin Musquin.

The report says that Team France captain, Gautier Paulin ā€“ a four-time MXoN winner ā€“ only wanted to ride with Musquin. The USA-based Frenchman was then apparently asked and then turned down the offer.

According to David Vuillemin, both Paulin and Ferrandis attempted to persuade Musquin, but to no avail. He said on Twitter: “After what happened, the French federation had the balls to say that Marvin refused the selection on their press release after Febvre was a no go. They beat their own record of douchebaggery every day. Iā€™m so ashamed and disgusted by them.”

Musquin is said to have moved on from the initial storm and is enjoying a well-earned holiday. It left the FFM looking for alternatives with the president reportedly threatening to cancel the trip to RedBud if a solution could not be found. Jordi Tixier ā€“ one of the more unlucky riders in recent years who has suffered a string of injuries ā€“ was the man to get the nod.

An ‘insider’ told LebigUSA: “If they had selected Marvin instead of Gautier, we would today have the ideal team for France at RedBud.”
