Team Suzuki World MX2 Jeremy Seewer has emerged as Red Bull KTM’S Jeffrey Herlings’ closest title challenger so far in the 2016 Grand Prix campaign as the 21-year-old has already equalled his career podium tally from 2015 in the first four rounds of the current series.
The Swiss is only in his second full-time Grand Prix term since turning Pro and ending his studies midway through 2014.
The Suzuki stalwart gained his first silverware in MX2 with three third positions in Argentina, Italy and Sweden. He has now walked the podium in Thailand (site of his worst round in ’15), Europe/Valkenswaard and Argentina once more and is a clear second in the championship standings.
Seewer was already making GP wild-card appearances as early as 2012 with the RM-Z250 in which he was contesting the German ADAC series as well as the EMX250 Championship – earning victories in the latter during the same year that countryman Valentin Guillod would go on to claim the EMX crown. #91 has progressed every campaign – finishing 10th in his initial MX2 attempt in ’14 then fifth last year and now looks set for better.
Seewer’s form makes him a target for MX2 factory teams for 2017 in which he is expected to be one of the main players for the title with Herlings tipped to finally leave the MX2 division and riders like Max Anstie and Dylan Ferrandis having to move on due to their age.
