Jeffrey Herlings has proclaimed himself as the “fastest man on the planet”.

That’s the message the world champion posted to Instagram after his impressive weekend at RedBud.

Both Eli Tomac and Justin Barcia were left in his wake and Herlings once again showed the rest of the world’s best he is the man to beat.

Herlings’ two races delivered two race wins at the 72nd Motocross of Nations and many feel it has answered the question – at least for this year – who is the fastest man in motocross?

In his Instagram statement, he did admit he wasn’t perfect but pointed out a number of stats to back his claim. “I have won 62 motos out of the 77 motos where I participated at this season,” he wrote. He’s also smart enough to know that there is always someone waiting to knock you off your throne and that “everything will start all over again next year”.

The Dutchman has never been shy about talking himself up and at times in the past has royally annoyed many motocross fans. But on this occasion, I think he has the backing of many of those same fans.

Here’s what he had to say:

“F A S T E S T M A N O N T H E P L A N E T

“After beating the top AMA riders last weekend in both motos, and going 1 – 1 in the MXGP class at the Motocross of Nations against the current AMA national champ, and winning 17 out of the 19 MXGP races I’ve raced, standing on the podium 19 out of the 19 times this season, being crowned to the 2018 MXGP world champion, winning the Dutch national title with even going undefeated, I think I am able to say I was the fastest outdoor racer on the planet in 2018.

“Of course I did not win all motos I participated at, but I am only human as well. But I have won 62 motos out of the 77 motos where I participated at this season. Everything will start all over again next year. Thank you 2018 you was amazing to me. Now let’s go eat hamburgers and drink some beers for a few weeks.

“Thank you to all my fans all around the world for the great support and love what I got throughout the whole season and all my sponsors and partners for believing in me and supporting me in the best possible way.”

Can there really be a claim that he isn’t the fastest motocrosser on the planet?
