Tougher than a Morecambe barmaid, Jake Nicholls dished out a portion of true British grit at the third round of the Dutch MX championship at the weekend.

After bashing himself up in the opening race in the deep sand at Heerde where a couple of crashes restricted him to 12th, The Reverend took himself off to hospital, got a nasty gash above his eye stitched up and raced back to the track just in time to nail the holeshot second time out. After leading for a couple of laps the Suffolk Saxon faded back to fourth and later confessed to feeling a little bit ‘weirded out’.

The MX2 class saw Jeffrey Herlings race to a pair of wins – the first from Red Bull KTM team-mate Jeremy van Horebeek and the second ahead of Joel Roelants.

Up in MX1 former British champions Evgeny Bobryshev and Ken De Dycker traded wins. HM Plant KTM UK’s current Maxxis championship leader Kevin Strijbos ran 2-5 and Lanes Kawasaki’s Marc de Reuver took a fourth in race two.
