Preview: 2013 Maxxis British Motocross Championship – Foxhill

The fifth round of the Maxxis ACU British Motocross Championship takes place at the famous Foxhill circuit near Swindon on June 2, hosted by the West Devon MCC.

Foxhill is carved into the Wiltshire Valley and steeped in history of Grand Prix and British Championship battles from yesteryear. The ACU have been working hard to regenerate the circuit since taking over the lease on the circuit at the beginning of the year.

MX2

In the MX2 class reigning Champion and points leader Elliott Banks-Browne will be looking to extend his points lead. The HM Plant KTM UK rider took two race wins at Milton Park last time out and in the process increased the points lead to 40 points.

Wildcard rider Harri Kullas will be looking to spoil EBB’s day by taking victory on the Team Honda Gariboldi Racing machine. Kullas has been suffering a slow start in the Grand Prix this year and will be looking to kick start his season. Currently Frenchman Steven Lenoir on the Evotech Stevens KTM sits second in the points after taking his first Maxxis race win at Milton Park.

The battle for third place in the Championship is heating up with Putoline Honda’s Neville Bradshaw just 10 points ahead of the Northern Irelands Graeme Irwin on the Heads and All Threads Suzuki and young Nathan Watson just a further 7 points back on the second of the HM Plant KTM UK machines.

Steven Clarke returns to the Championship for the second time and will be looking to repeat his podium performance from Milton Park. Clarke will again be riding for the HM Plant KTM UK team and looking for a similar result on one of his favourite circuits.

Other riders in the MX2 class that will be looking to improve on their current position include Bryan MacKenzie on the Pendrich Kawasaki, STR KTM’s Adam Sterry and Lewis Tombs on the JAR Honda by IFS machine.

MX1

In the MX1 class Tanel Leok currently holds the Red Plate on the Route 77 Energy Honda, despite suffering a mechanical failure in the last race at Milton Park. MBO Sport Yamaha rider Kristian Whatley sits just 18 points behind in second place after taking 2nd Overall at Milton Park. Just 8 points back is Jonathan Barragan on the Team STR KTM, who produced three great results at the previous round.

With Tommy Searle unlikely to compete, Buildbase Honda rider Nicolas Aubin will be looking to move up the standings and close the gap on the top 3. Former British Champion Brad Anderson on the Maxxis Kawasaki by LPE will be aiming for strong results after starting to find his form in recent weeks.

Other riders to keep an eye out for include Shane Carless on the Oakleaf Kawasaki, the Welshman will be looking to repeat his podium success from the last round while Gert Krestinov will be looking to turn around his season after a slow start.

Completing the line-up of classes is the opening round of the 2013 British Veterans Championship. This class features some of the best British riders from the past competing for National honours. Last year’s Champion Phil Mercer will be looking to reclaim his title, while former Champion’s Greg Hanson, Terry House and Rob Herring will all be looking to climb onto the top of the podium come the end of the day.
